Put Your Neighbors To Work With Zaarly, A Local Market for Odd Jobs

Let’s say you need to assemble a piece of IKEA furniture. You dislike doing it so much that you would be willing to pay somebody $50 to put it together for you. Perhaps one of your neighbors is an unemployed carpenter who would take the offer. But how are you going to find him?

This is the basic problem Zaarly tries to solve.Put Your Neighbors To Work With Zaarly, A Local Market for Odd Jobs

Rent Your Home Like It is A Hotel Room

Airbnb, the “marketplace for spaces” that lets people rent their property just like it’s a hotel room, has now extended that concept to also include monthly rentals and sublets. As the company moves into this new category, it aims to make it just as easy to book a monthly stay or a sublet as it is to rent a hotel room.

I was curious to find out if any Katonah neighbors had signed up for this app. Sure enough some area residents are putting their homes up for monthly rentals and sublets.

Here is the link.

BTW the service offers a $50,000 insurance policy for property damage from Aribnb guests.

What do you think of this idea of renting your home out to others?

Sites That Allow You To Borrow Gadgets From Your Neighbors

A service called SnapGoods, allows people to lend out their surplus gadgetry and various gear for a daily fee.

SnapGoods is one of the latest start-ups that bases its business model around allowing people to share, exchange and rent goods in a local setting. Among others are NeighborGoods and ShareSomeSugar.

The common thread of all these sites is that access trumps ownership; consumers are offered ways to share goods instead of having to buy them.

Instead of laying out $500+ for an ipad, through one of these sites, you could rent one for a lot less
